I will never forget the first time I met Hannah + Spencer for coffee at Starbucks. They were sweet, gentle souls, telling me all about their time together. We talked the details of the day, asked and answered some questions, and we were on our way. A few months later, Hannah came to my house and we finalized everything, and even though it was work, it felt more like hanging out. When their wedding day arrived, I felt 0 nerves! I knew I was working with one of the sweetest bride + grooms ever! It was the first time they were ever in front of my camera and they were pros!!!
I've seen the topic of social media and professional photos pop up a lot lately, and I wanted to take a second to nip it in the butt. This will be short and sweet and was written with the best intentions :)
1. Instagramming your professional photos: please, do not add Insta filters over your professional photos. We have worked tirelessly, for years, crafting our "style" of photography, and when filters get slapped over an image, it no longer is a true representation of our work. Every photographer dies a little inside when we see filters slapped over our photos. (more…)
My sweet Adelynn,
I love you more than words can say. I dreamed many nights about you throughout my whole life. When your daddy and I decided to make you, every negative test was a punch in the gut. I have endometriosis, so we didn't know if having you would even be possible. After a few months, finally the positive pregnancy test happened and "holy shit" were the first words out of my mouth. I couldn't believe it. You where there, already growing. I prayed for a little boy. I was so so so scared of having a little girl. You see, my mom and I had a rocky relationship all my life. We constantly were butting heads, and I was scared that if I had a little girl, I would do the same to you. Your Mammaw and I are closer now than we've ever been, and I owe that all to you, Adelynn. She loves you so much, and it makes my heart so happy to see the joy you bring her, and all your grandparents, for that matter. (more…)
I feel like I start every blog post the same: "I can't say enough about so and so"...
Well, this one is no different. I first met Brianne about a year ago when she contacted me about mentoring classes to learn how to use her camera. I've been following along with her and her husband's journey ever since. Bri started her own photography business (https://www.facebook.com/BrianneLeighPhoto/) to help raise money for IVF treatments. Since then, her and Dave have opened their hearts and their home to a few foster care children, and it's been amazing to watch them transform into the new rolls they play.
Bri emailed me just a few weeks ago about wanting an anniversary session for their 4th anniversary. I was thrilled and so excited that she asked me!! Her and Dave deserved these photos after all the love the give to their foster babies. So we talked about location ideas and outfits and set a date.
Welp. This session went of without a hitch. Minus the 40 people that we also at King and Queen's seat on Sunday! Jenn + Don got a few whistles and hollers from the crowd and it was hilarious. Actually, it was just one punk kid and it was kind of annoying!!! Everyone else was very, "oh that's so cute!".. I think one gal even snapped a photo on her phone!
We hung out, snapping photos at the park for about an hour or so. It wasn't till we were on our way home when we passed this GORGEOUS field that hadn't been plowed yet. It's common for those purple weeds/flowers to grow in fields, but this field was COVERED!! Jenn and I "oooh'd and ahhh'd" as we drove by, and Don, bless his heart said, "I'll turn this car around right now!"
These two are troopers. Not like cop troopers, but up-early-for-a-sunrise-session kind of troopers.
Meet Madea + Alex.
At 7am on Saturday we met at Chickie's Rock for their engagement session. I knew it was going to be a good session before we started. Madea, from day one, has been very "you tell me what to do and we'll do it". I was surprised at how ok she was when I said, "if you want to shoot there in the morning, we have to do a sunrise session because that's when the light will be best." I cannot thank her enough for trusting me! (more…)
Ah, this engagement session!!! When I saw on Facebook that Tanner and Kelsey were engaged, I immediately texted my best friend Harmony and said, "if Kelsey asks me to be her photographer, will you road trip to Vermont with me for their engagement session?!" Kelsey and Harmony are friends and so that's mainly how I know Kelsey!! Harmony said yes, so we loaded up the car at 5:30pm on a Thursday and started our 8 hour journey!
I first met Katie's father at my best friend's wedding. At some point, I remember being slightly less than sober, talking to John about his daughter and Steve. I remember John telling me how thankful he is that they found each other, how wonderful Steve is with their boys, and how much he loved his daughter. I had known Steve since high school, so I could attest to how kind he is. I had met Katie a few times before, and thought she was so beautiful and unique... Seriously. I wish I had the guts to rock a full sleeve like she does!!!
When I was pregnant with my daughter, I redirected my business towards family sessions, maternity, newborns, and seniors. I was on such a high from being pregnant I was like, "forget weddings! Babies are where it's at! Oh look, cute kid! [sigh] faaaamily <3 <3 <3.. I spy a baby bump! Look Mike, that girl is pregnant too! Look at the cute baaayyybyyy ohmygoshbabyclothes!!!..." etc, etc... And so I got a new logo, a new website, had my baby, was on that "new mom" high and then reality hit me like a ton of bricks.
Well, now that it's nearly February of 2017 and life as finally calmed down a little, I thought I'd post some of my favorite images from this past wedding session! I'd like to give a huge shout out to the wonderful people who helped me out this year: Jessie Geesey Photography, my main 2nd shooter, and Richard of Richard and Tara Photography + Cambria Creative Photography for helping out as well :)
Reviewing these images has me so excited for my 2017 weddings!!!
